Section_A Security system set up A new courthouse security system went into effect in early January in the Venango County courthouse. A new courthouse security system went into effect in early January in the Venango County courthouse. The system requires general users to enter by the front door of the courthouse and pass through a metal detector while their belongings are scanned by an X-ray machine. County employees, law enforcement officers and professional users, such as attorneys, may enter through the rear door using official identification or a county identification badge. The rear entrance will continue to be the point of entry for those in wheelchairs and those with other disabilities until the front entrance is modified for handicapped-accessibility. Venango County Sheriff Gene Price said the system came about at the insistence of Senior Judge H. William White. Price said the county commissioners made funding available for the system which is monitored and operated by members of his department. Pennsylvania, he said, is one of the last courthouses in Pennsylvania to get it. The goal, said the sheriff, is to make the system “as user-friendly as possible.” |
