Oil Industry Started 150 Years Ago 02/25/2009
	Edwin L. Drake’s drill struck oil 150 years ago near Titusville, an event that ignited the world’s first oil boom right here in the Oil Creek valley.

Our stripper well numbers keep us amoung big players 02/25/2009
	Production from stripper oil and gas wells in the U.S. continues to plug much-needed energy supplies into the domestic marketplace. Pennsylvania is an important player in that production, according to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission’s annual report on marginal wells in the 38 states with oil and gas activities.

Rockefeller impacted local oil region 02/25/2009
	John D. Rockefeller and his Standard Oil Co. had a major impact on the local oil region. Rockefeller was personally involved in the lives and fortunes of numerous residents and he affected events and activities that transpired here.

National Transit was a pipeline conglomerate 02/25/2009

Pipelines contributed to the early growth of Standard Oil Co., and the center for John D. Rockefeller’s pipeline systems was in the National Transit Building in downtown Oil City. As the revolution in transportation of oil was beginning to take place, oil buyer Samuel Van Syckel constructed the first successful pipeline. It was located from Pithole to Miller Farm which connected with the Oil Creek Railroad. The line was 5 miles long.

Tarbell Exposes Standard Oil Trust 02/25/2009
	Many residents of the oil region were affected by John D. Rockefeller and his Standard Oil Co. Some gained careers. Many became rich. And, unfortunately, some were affected negatively. Ida M. Tarbell, another resident of the Oil Creek valley, avoided being affected by Standard Oil. She affected it.

A Town of Oil Wells 02/25/2009
	As late as 1971, there were at least 119 producing oil wells within the municipal boundaries of Oil City, according to the centennial edition of The Derrick.

McClintok well No. 1 holds distinction 02/25/2009
	In 1923, the oil industry in this region faced a crisis. Production was shifting to the West and Southwest where crude was plentiful and cheap. Through advertising campaigns and expensive merchandising projects, the new producers were telling the world that their product was as good as Pennsylvania crude.
