Health: It’s a big business


Healthcare is big business in this region, employing hundreds of people

and creating the need for many additional services.

Of course, it also performs a vital mission for the area, allowing local

residents to obtain nearly all their care close to home.


VNA wins honor; visits are up in 2007 - Offices will move this year to Sugarcreek Towne Center 02/14/2008
  An award for home health care excellence, enhancement of a congestive

heart failure program and increased visits topped achievements in 2007 for

the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County.

VNA’s plans for 2008 include the opening of a second inpatient hospice and

relocation of the organization’s offices.


Clarion Hospital posts advancements - The numbers help tell the story of a successful year 02/14/2008
  CLARION – Clarion Hospital marked another year of advancements, and the

numbers tell the story.

In the fiscal year from July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007, the hospital

reported 3,007 admissions and 18,022 emergency room visits. There were 326

births, 2,732 surgeries and 8,262 ambulance trips.


OC facility carries out improvements - Presbyterian Home says its occupancy remained steady in 2007 02/14/2008
  Occupancy remained steady, and several capital improvements were carried

out during 2007 at the Oil City Presbyterian Home.

The home, located at 10 Vo-Tech Drive, is a 120-bed skilled nursing

facility and is one of five facilities owned and operated by Presbyterian

Homes in the Presbytery of Lake Erie. Martha Hoover is the facility

administrator and will celebrate 20 years with Presbyterian Homes in July.


The Caring Place credits its employees 02/14/2008
  The workers are its most cherished resource, Franklin home says.

The Caring Place is a 100-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center

located at 103 N. 13th St., Franklin. There also is an integral, 32-bed

assisted living/personal care home located at the same address.

As health care costs continue to rise, companies are looking for ways to

and better manage costs, according to Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Child Development Centers, an educationally based childcare agency,

continued to expand and provide more families with high-quality service in

West Park Rehab expands on Pone Lane 02/14/2008
  Franklin practice enters its 8th year.

West Park Rehab, under the direction of Edward St.Clair, DPT, has entered

its eighth year of business in Franklin.

For the past two years, the practice has operated out of two locations —

at the original location in the Franklin YMCA and at 571 Pone Lane —

providing services for physical rehabilitation, pediatrics, aquatics,

ergonomic/work rehab, massage therapy and wellness.

  Keystone Rehabilitation Systems of Franklin, led by facility director and

physical therapist Karee Heffernan, offers a wide range of services.

The experienced staff assisting Karee includes Jim Womer and Katie Micco,

physical therapist assistants; and Deb Lepley, patient services

Hospital will construct new building - Transitional care unit, rehabilitation center planned 02/14/2008
  Ground will be broken later this year for UPMC Northwest’s new

Transitional Care Unit/Rehabilitation Center — the centerpiece of the

 BROOKVILLE — In Home Solutions PLUS, a Medicare-certified home healthcare

agency, will soon offer a new service to the community — telehealth

monitoring.


HeartCenter at Butler joins elite ranks - New technology is being offered; unit receives national award 02/14/2008
  BUTLER — The past several years brought increased growth to the

HeartCenter at Butler Memorial Hospital and 2007 was no exception.

In November, the HeartCenter at BMH added a option to treat vascular

disease by performing an abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. BMH joins the

ranks of a very few hospitals outside big tertiary centers that can offer

this procedure to patients.


Titusville Hospital puts focus on care - Improvements made in heart care, orthopedics, other areas 02/14/2008
  TITUSVILLE — Titusville Area Hospital says it entered 2008 with

enthusiasm, focusing its energy and resources on excellence in patient

care.

Over the last year, the hospital made advancements in heart care,

orthopedics, surgical and wound care as well as other health concerns.

  UPMC Northwest has received 16 awards over the past several years from

organizations that measure the performance of hospitals. The two most

recent of these awards are for value to the community and for the

Rehabilitation Center at its Oil City campus.


Innovative program helps fill local jobs 02/14/2008
  What can an employer do when it needs many job candidates and few are

available? Collaborate with a local university and create a customized

degree program to help fill the vacancies.

This is exactly what UPMC Northwest, Clarion University-Venango Campus and

Mercer County-based UPMC Horizon have done with their innovative,

associate’s degree Respiratory Care Program, which is in its second year of

existence.


Senior apartments full at Sugar Creek Station 02/14/2008
  Full occupancy of its senior apartments and a successful flu prevention

initiative are among Sugar Creek Station’s most recent achievements.


Business up at Community Ambulance - The fleet at local service includes 7 ambulances, 5 courtesy vans 02/14/2008
  Community Ambulance Service posted another busy year in 2007 with a total

of 17,582 patient contacts or transports.

That reflected a 6 percent increase over 2006 and includes emergency and

non-emergency stretcher transports and wheelchair accessible transportation

in the agency’s courtesy coach van.


Windsor House marks 20th anniversary in 2007 02/14/2008
  MARIENVILLE — Walking through the front doors of Snyder Memorial, visitors

may feel they have discovered the definition of “home away from home.”

The country setting contributes to the charm. Windsor House at Snyder

Memorial Health Care Center is located on the edge of the Allegheny

National Forest along Route 66 in Marienville.


Emerson will celebrate its 56th year of operation 02/14/2008
  TITUSVILLE — Emerson Place, an assisted living/personal care facility at

701 N. Perry St., Titusville, will celebrate its 56th year of operation in

2008.

Emerson Place is owned and operated by Presbyterian Homes in the

Presbytery of Lake Erie, a non-profit corporation.
