Clarion County’s retail strength is centered in two areas -- downtown Clarion, of course, and at the nearby Clarion Mall and in its surrounding stores, restaurants and hotels. And while there have been some recent store closings, following a pattern that has developed throughout the country, there also has been growth. |
Sidewalk Project Brightens Clarion

CLARION — Clarion’s downtown business district received a beautification boost last year with a sidewalk improvement project. The $165,000 project featured the addition of stamped concrete in place of the deteriorating brick around the trees. Work was funded through the borough’s 2005 and 2007 Community Development Block grants. |
IDA comes a long way from start 10 years ago

CLARION — IDA Wholesale celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, having opened its doors in May 1998 as part of IDA Vending. The only employee was Cathie Ida, the store manager. By the end of the year, plans were under way for construction of a store and by spring of 1999, it was built. |

Peebles Opens store at Clarion Mall

CLARION — The opening of a new Peebles department store was a highlight for the Clarion Mall last spring. Peebles renovated what had been a former Mor 4 Less supermarket location beside the mall along Route 68. The 23,294-square-foot store features brand name clothing for the family. Mall officials are now working to fill vacancies left inside the mall as a result of recent corporate decisions. |
