The annual Our Community Salutes banquet honoring local high school seniors who are entering the military was held Friday night at Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church in Franklin.
Thirty-four of those soon-to-be graduates attended the dinner, and nearly 100 service-bound seniors from 19 school districts were recognized. That brings the total number of students honored during the banquet’s first six years to more than 400.
Sherman “Tank” Morrison, a retired 21-year Navy veteran, founded the Venango County unit of Our Community Salutes and has been the banquet organizer since its first year in 2013.
The aim of Our Community Salutes is to be “the first to say thank you” to the students before they leave their families and friends.
Robert Krepp, a Vietnam veteran and retired Navy senior chief, was the guest speaker Friday.
