Editor,

It was with great enthusiasm that I read the article in the Dec. 7 edition of The Derrick: “Entrepreneurship training to aid displaced Joy workers.”

The Small Business Jump Start program has been the beginning of a good many small businesses that residents of Franklin/Venango County have come to enjoy and support.

Owners of a restaurant, a catering business and a ticket printing business are all graduates of Small Business Jump Start, just to identify a few.

Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple of voids in the area just waiting for an entrepreneur. There is no place to have breakfast on the weekend in downtown Franklin. Try to find someone to install tile in your home. If you need a handyman for a small home repair in a timely fashion ... good luck.

People who were tops in some fields have gotten to the point of retirement, leaving room for new upstart. I support and encourage new ventures. I wish I had been brave enough to take that step.

Franklin City councilwoman
