Winner in Carbaugh fund-raiser will be chosen Friday

A meet-the-family picnic is also scheduled Friday.

The winner of a fund-raising event for a Cooperstown boy battling a severe form of muscular dystrophy will be chosen at 8 p.m. Friday in Justus Park.

Tyler Carbaugh, 10, is the son of Charlie Carbaugh and Tracy Deal Carbaugh. His ailment is known as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a particularly deadly form of the disease that progressively destroys muscle tissue.

Tyler can't walk, and there is no strength in his steadily deteriorating legs.

A massive oak clock valued at nearly $4,000 will be given away Friday. Tickets to win the clock, valued at nearly $4,000, are priced at $20 each and may be obtained by contacting John Deemer at 677-6740 or Heather Hogue at 676-1508.

Tickets are also on sale at Dr. Ed Resler's office, Dr. William Hebda's office, Film Fest Video and Brewbusters, all of Oil City; Dr. Marc Maslov's office in Seneca and several Cranberry Mall shops; Jim's Supermarket in Cooperstown and the Cooperstown Library.

The fund-raiser is being held so the Carbaugh family can busy a wheelchair-accessible van that can accommodate a 250-pound electric wheelchair.

A meet-the-family picnic will be held from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Morrison Park in Seneca prior to the drawing in Justus Park.

Tyler's parents are both 1993 graduates of Oil City High School. Tyler has an older brother, Cody.
