Police & Fire Calls
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 15th Street Hill in Sandycreek Township.
Franklin state police said a vehicle driven by John J. Benedetti of Kennerdell was stopped waiting for another vehicle to make a turn when it was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Charles J. Helem of Franklin. The impact caused Benedetti’s vehicle to travel about 50 feet before it came to rest on the berm, police said.
Benedetti received minor injuries, as did a passenger in Helem’s vehicle, Kasey Spinks, 23, of Franklin, police said. Helem was cited for careless driving, police said.
Woman injured in accident
A Franklin woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday on Route 27 in Plum Township.
Franklin state police said Norma Latchaw, 58, lost control of her motorcycle as she was traveling west on Route 27. The cycle traveled off the berm and struck a ditch before coming to rest, police said.
Latchaw received minor injuries, police said.
3 hurt in Butler County crash
Three people were injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Morris Road in Washington Township, Butler County.
Butler state police said a vehicle driven by Kyrstin Hiwiller, 17, of Boyers, traveled off the roadway and struck a ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Hiwiller and two passengers, a 12-year-old from Petrolia and a 13-year-old from Boyers, all received minor injuries, police said.
Transformer fire
Franklin state police are investigating a criminal mischief incident that occurred at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at a Central Electric substation on Georgetown Road in Irwin Township, Venango County.
Police said individuals were attempting to steal copper wire from the substation, but while cutting the ground wires the individuals charged the ground system and caught the transformer on fire.
Damages were estimated at about $30,000, police said.
One injured in accident
A Chicago woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 80 in Irwin Township, Venango County.
Franklin state police said a tractor-trailer driven by Roger Butt of Maryland tried to move from the left lane of I-80 into the right lane and hit a car driven by Claudia Diaz of Chicago. Diaz’s vehicle traveled off the roadway and into a median, where it struck a ditch and rolled onto its side, police said.
Diaz received treatment for minor injuries, police said.
