Police & Fire Calls
Two Polk residents were injured after a one-vehicle accident around 2 p.m. Sunday on Old Route 8 just south of Hines Lane in Venango County.
State police said Casey E. Shuffstall, 21, was traveling south on Old Route 8 when she lost control of her vehicle while negotiating a right curve.
The vehicle crossed the center line, traveled off the road, struck a ditch, then an embankment and another ditch before coming to a rest, police said.
Shuffstall and a passenger, Steven R. Malone, 38, both suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.
Woman arrested for assault
A Franklin woman was arrested for simple assault around 3:42 a.m. Sunday after injuring another woman during a fight on the 600 block of 15th Street in Franklin.
Franklin police said Brenda McVay, 33, punched another woman in the head multiple times, injuring the woman, who was transported to UPMC Northwest for treatment.
McVay was transported to the Franklin Police Department, processed and later taken to the Venango County jail on a 48-hour parole detainer, police said.
Another assault arrest
A Franklin man was arrested for simple assault around 1:34 p.m. Saturday after police responded to a call of domestic abuse in Franklin.
Franklin police said David Lenhart, 29, was arrested after he struck and injured a victim at his residence on Eagle Street in Franklin.
Lenhart was placed in the Venango County jail, police said.
Hit-run
Clarion state police are looking for a vehicle involved in a hit-run around 2:15 a.m. Saturday on Route 66 in Clarion County.
Police said the driver of a silver Pontiac Grand Am was traveling north on Route 66 when the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a utility pole.
After the initial impact, the vehicle continued north along the west berm, struck a set of wooden stairs, traveled back across the roadway and struck a mailbox.
Anyone with information about the crash can contract Clarion state police at 226-1710. An investigation into the crash will continue, police said.
Retail theft
Two area men were arrested for retail theft around 5 p.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart in Cranberry Township.
State police said Joshua Craig Blum, 24, of Seneca, and David Eugene Wyant, 23, of Oil City, were arrested after removing merchandise from the store without paying.
The men were arraigned before District Judge Douglas Gerwick and were placed in the Venango County jail on $5,000 bail.
Man arrested for fraud
Clarion state police are searching for a suspect wanted for fraud after a theft at Cogo's/ BP Saturday in Clarion County.
Police said a male suspect contacted the Monroe Township store and identified himself as a regional manager, claiming he did not receive funds from a Western Union transaction he alleged was made Friday.
The man convinced the clerk to re-enter the transactions and provided two valid control numbers, police said.
Both transactions were forwarded, police said. They said one transaction was stopped before the suspect could pick it up.
An investigation into the theft will continue, police said.
DUI arrest
George W. Dobrick, 59, of Franklin, was arrested for DUI around 12:42 a.m. Saturday on Elk Street in Franklin following a traffic stop.
