Villanova star and AP All-American Maddy Siegrist will not return for a fifth season and has declared for the WNBA draft. Siegrist led Villanova to a 30-7 overall record and the Sweet 16 for the second time ever this season. She led the country in scoring at 29.2 points per game and averaged 9.2 rebounds. She’s the two-time Big East Player of the Year. The WNBA draft is April 10.

Free agent defensive linemen Michael Dogbe and Henry Mondeaux have signed one-year contracts with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The duo should provide depth for a team that lost veteran Arden Key to Tennessee. Dogbe started four of 13 games with Arizona in 2022. He finished with 28 tackles, including one tackle for loss. Mondeaux started four of 11 games with the New York Giants in 2022. He finished with 16 tackles. The Jaguars are still looking to replace Key as well as Dawuane Smoot, who is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. They are likely to select at least one defensive lineman in next month’s NFL draft.

The  philanthropist, sports franchise executive and co-founder of Black Entertainment Television Sheila Johnson is writing a memoir. “Walk Through Fire” will document her rise from a middle class family in Illinois to becoming a pioneering Black woman billionaire, and how she endured her troubled marriage to fellow BET founder Robert L. Johnson. Johnson and her former husband started BET in 1980, and sold it 19 years later to Viacom. She has also owned all or part of the Washington Capitals of the NHL, the Washington Wizards of the NBA and the Washington Mystics of the WNBA.

Lamar Jackson says he has requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens. The star quarterback said Monday in a series of tweets that he requested a trade as of March 2. On March 7, the Ravens put the nonexclusive franchise tag on Jackson and said they were still hopeful they could reach a long-term deal with him. That version of the franchise tag allowed Jackson to negotiate with other teams, but it also gives Baltimore a chance to match any agreement he makes.

Ilya Lyubushkin is citing an anti-gay Kremlin law and fears of facing retribution at home in Russia for electing to not participate in the Buffalo Sabres’ pregame warmups on Pride night when players are expected to wear Pride-themed jerseys. The team announced Lyubushkin's decision Monday morning. Lyubushkin is from Moscow, where he has family and visits regularly in the offseason. The defenseman is expected to play Monday night against Montreal despite not taking part in warmups. Other players are set to not only wear the rainbow-colored jerseys but use Pride tape on their sticks.

They will miss the playoffs for a third straight season and haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1975.

The number of college athletes who are monetizing their social media followings has grown over the past 18 months. The NCAA cleared the way for athletes to cash in on their celebrity in July 2021. Many of those influencers are female athletes. Some say they are aware their growing popularity can draw attention from fans who may overstep their bounds. Sometimes it's in the comments on their social media posts. And sometimes they show up at sporting events just to meet the athletes.

European soccer clubs have sealed a new working agreement with FIFA after securing a 70% increase in their shares of World Cup revenues for the 2026 and 2030 tournaments. The European Club Association says it renewed its working accord with FIFA through 2030. It also could lead to clubs having a say in managing commercial deals for the revamped Club World Cup that is scheduled to start in 2025. The agreement ensures clubs worldwide will share $355 million of FIFA’s income from each of the next two men’s World Cups. It was $209 million for each of the past two editions.

The St. Louis Blues added three players before the trade deadline who could be a big part of getting back into contention next season. The early returns are promising. Jakub Vrana scored six goals in his first 11 games with the Blues, Kasperi Kapanen has 10 points in 14 games and Sammy Blais has 15 points in 22 games. All three players signed only through next season are thriving with more ice time, better opportunity and the chance to prove they deserve it. Coach Craig Berube says the change of scenery has given Vrana, Kapanen and Blais new life with their new team.

The Boston Marathon has agreed to a 10-year sponsorship deal with Bank of America that organizers hope will allow the world’s oldest 26.2-mile road race to grow over the next decade while maintaining its historic character. Financial terms of the deal announced Monday weren't disclosed. But the deal doesn't include the naming rights that typically allow the sponsor to boost its profile and an event to boost its coffers. Bank of America already had a foot in the distance-running world as the sponsor of the Chicago Marathon for the last decade. Insurance giant John Hancock sponsored the Boston Marathon for the last 38 years.

Harry Kane likely knew what was awaiting him after he celebrated becoming England’s all-time leading scorer. Confirmation of Antonio Conte’s departure from Tottenham by “mutual agreement” came within hours of his 55th goal for his national team on Sunday. Conte leaves after failing to end Tottenham's 15-year wait for a trophy and Kane’s own pursuit of silverware. The Italian coach has been a serial winner with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan but could not maintain that record at Tottenham. Kane was presented with a golden boot ahead of England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine but may wonder if any manager can turn Tottenham into a winning team.

Tottenham is searching for a fourth permanent manager since 2019 following the departure of Antonio Conte. His successor for the moment is assistant Cristian Stellini. He will be in charge until the end of the season at least and is going it alone after being the No. 2 for Conte at a string of clubs. Some options to succeed Conte on a full-time basis include Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann and Roberto De Zerbi. Pochettino is a former Tottenham manager who has been without a job since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in July. Nagelsmann has just been fired by Bayern Munich and De Zerbi has been impressing at Brighton.

Chelsea has reported losses of 121 million pounds ($148 million) in 2021-22. The club cites the sanctions imposed on former owner Roman Abramovich as a major factor. Abramovich was sanctioned by the British government last March as it sought to freeze the assets of individuals it believed had connections to Vladimir Putin following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Chelsea was placed under a special license that restricted the club’s ability to sell tickets, accept event bookings and even sign contracts with players. The restrictions remained in place until May when the club was bought by a consortium led by American businessman Todd Boehly.

Juventus’ lawyers have appeared before a judge to face the first in a series of court dates following accusations of false accounting by the 36-time Italian champions. The judge for a preliminary hearing in a Turin court postponed the procedure until May 10 for administrative reasons. Juventus, former club president Andrea Agnelli and 11 others face charges of false communications by a company listed on the Milan stock exchange, obstructing watchdog agencies, false billing and market manipulation. Juventus’ entire board of directors resigned in November after news emerged of the investigation by Turin prosecutors. The club was then hit with a 15-point penalty in Serie A.

Afghans have celebrated their national cricket team’s landmark victory over Pakistan, although fan festivities were more muted back home because of the ruling Taliban restrictions on music. On Sunday, Afghanistan won its first series against neighboring Pakistan, a top-six ranked International Cricket Council team, for the first time since the war-torn country’s world cricket debut in 2009. It beat Pakistan to take a 2-0 lead in a three-match series in Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates. The Afghanistan Cricket Board said in a tweet Monday that the team put on an “incredible show” to clinch a historic series win. Some social media posts showed Afghans dancing a national dance without music on the streets of their capital, Kabul.

Mateo Retegui’s impressive debut for Italy added some gloss to what was essentially a mediocre performance from the defending champion at the start of European Championship qualifying. Italy kicked off its campaign to reach Euro 2024 with a 2-1 loss at home to England on Thursday. It followed that up with a 2-0 win over Malta on Sunday but there is much to improve. The Azzurri’s recent performances have raised doubts about whether Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph was indeed a return to the top or an anomaly driven by the passion and fervour of a country recovering from being one of the hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

A United Nations rights expert advising the International Olympic Committee says Russian athletes who actively served in the war in Ukraine should be let back into international sport if they didn't take part in war crimes. The U.N. special rapporteur for cultural rights explained her views late Sunday. Alexandra Xanthaki says only Russian military members implicated in “allegations of war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity or propaganda for war” should be denied neutral status to compete ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The IOC executive board meets Tuesday to update its advice to Olympic sports bodies.

The race to buy Manchester United is taking shape. The frontrunners appear to be Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and local boy-turned-billionaire Jim Ratcliffe. There is also the possibility that the Glazer family could yet retain control of the iconic soccer team. That is despite raising the hopes of supporters that they would finally walk away after repeated attempts by fans to drive them out. There has been a second round of bidding and Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe remain in contention for what is likely to be the biggest ever sale of a sports team. The price is estimated to reach up to $6 billion.

Cristiano Ronaldo is feeling at home again. It took only two games for him to make his peace with Portugal’s national team and show he is not done impressing at the international level just yet. The 38-year-old Ronaldo scored four goals in Portugal’s first two games in 2024 European Championship qualifying to show he remains the leader that fans got used to seeing wearing the national team’s red and green uniform. It marked a successful return for Ronaldo after a disappointing World Cup and a controversial move to Saudi soccer.

Cody Rhodes will face Roman Reigns in the main event of this year’s WrestleMania on April 2 looking to write the final chapter of a story that began seven years ago when he left the company. When Rhodes departed in 2016, he was mired in playing different characters with no hopes of being a top-card wrestler. Rhodes came back to a hero's welcome at last year’s WrestleMania. A torn pectoral muscle last June put a slight roadblock to the comeback, but Rhodes returned in late January and won the Royal Rumble, setting up his match with Reigns, who will put his 946-day championship reign on the line April 2 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

José Abreu and Trea Turner are among a group of key players who could have a big impact on new teams this season. Abreu has been one of baseball’s most consistent performers since his big league debut in 2014. He had at least 25 homers and 100 RBIs in six of his first nine seasons. After beginning his major league career with the Chicago White Sox, Abreu finalized a $58.5 million, three-year contract with Houston in November. Turner’s $300 million, 11-year contract with Philadelphia sure seems like an ideal match of player and team. Turner brings his speed and athleticism to a Phillies lineup that also includes Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto.
