Stroman, coming off wins over the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, had six strikeouts through six innings. There have been no no-hitters in the majors this season, the first since Major League Baseball introduced a pitch clock. There were a record nine in 2021 and four last year.

A long-awaited proposal to finance a Major League Baseball stadium on the Las Vegas Strip is scheduled for its first public hearing at the Nevada Legislature. At a hearing Monday, lawmakers are considering whether to allow up to $380 million in incentives that include state tax credits and county bonds to build a new home for the Oakland Athletics. The price tag and behind-the-scenes negotiations have sparked debate on public subsidies and equity in state economic development efforts. The stadium financing bill was introduced late Friday night after over a month of speculation as the A’s move away from Oakland became increasingly imminent.

Recent allegations by WNBA player Dearica Hamby that her coach harassed her for being pregnant have shined a renewed spotlight on one of the biggest challenges that female professional athletes face. Juggling the demands of parenthood with those of a professional sports career is just one of myriad challenges female athletes face in an industry rife with pay disparities, harassment and bullying. The athletes say things are slowly getting better as new work contracts include provisions for increased pay, maternity leave and child care stipends. But they also say that pregnant athletes continue to encounter attitudes ranging from ambivalent to outright hostile from leagues, coaches — and even fellow players.

IndyCar owner Roger Penske says he is sure series officials will investigate what led to a wheel coming loose during a crash in the Indianapolis 500. The wheel from Kyle Kirkwood's damaged car ended up sailing over the catch fence and grandstands before landing on a parked automobile. Nobody was hurt. The wheels are supposed to have tethers that keep them attached in the event of a crash, but it appeared that the tether came loose or was ripped apart. Penske said “we were very fortunate we didn't have a bad accident.” Kirkwood and fellow driver Felix Rosenqvist were uninjured in the crash.

The major league-best Tampa Bay Rays have placed closer Pete Fairbanks on the 15-day injured list because of inflammation in his left hip. Manager Kevin Cash says Fairbanks texted that he was feeling better than he did when he left the ballpark on Sunday, though he was still sore. He is scheduled for more tests on Tuesday. Fairbanks was warming up in the bullpen during the Rays’ wild 11-10 win over the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers at home. But he left for the dugout after his hip locked up. Fairbanks has five saves in six chances and a 1.54 ERA in 13 appearances. He spent time on the 15-day IL earlier this month because of right forearm inflammation. The Rays recalled right-hander Trevor Kelley from Triple-A Durham.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway has been postponed again, and will be completed after the conclusion of the Coca-Cola 600 on Monday night. Ty Gibbs leads the race with 45 laps complete, followed by John Hunter Nemechek, Justin Allgaier, Daniel Hemric and Sheldon Creed. The Xfinity race was initially set for Saturday, but was postponed because of rain. The race started Monday a few minutes late because of rain and was red-flagged twice because of more rain. The Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’s longest race, is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. EDT.

Sergei Bobrovsky needs a haircut. The goaltender for the Florida Panthers uses a thin headband to hold some of his hair back these days. Long hair usually isn’t a problem for Bobrovsky at this time of year: When a season ends, he gets most of it shaved off and keeps the cut super-short until the next season begins. This season is still going. As such, the hair is still growing. And a trip to the Stanley Cup Final awaits him.

Josef Newgarden walked around Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday as the Indy 500 champion. The years of frustration that had followed the two-time IndyCar series champion were finally relieved. In an interview with The Associated Press, Newgarden insisted that whether he won the most important race of the year would not define his career. But it's an easier statement to make having that large Indy 500 winner's ring on his finger. Newgarden spent the morning posing for victory photographs, doing interviews and even getting his picture taken so that his face could be sculpted on the Borg-Warner Trophy.

The Swedish government has called an emergency meeting of the country’s soccer federation after crowd disorder at a match between Stockholm rivals AIK and Djurgårdens that caused a one-hour delay. Flares were thrown from the crowd on two occasions during Sunday’s game at the Tele2 Arena and television footage showed police officers with dogs running onto the field to protect the players before being confronted by masked fans in the AIK section behind one of the goals. Police opened an investigation and Swedish minister of justice Gunnar Strommer has contacted the Swedish Football Association to request a meeting in an effort to prevent a repeat of the crowd trouble.

Barbora Krejcikova is trying not to think too much about her past two trips to the French Open as she prepares to play her first-round match Tuesday in Paris. Two years ago, she arrived relatively unknown and relatively unaccomplished and left with championships in both singles and doubles, something no woman had done at Roland Garros in more than 20 years. Last year, Krejcikova came in after three months off because of an elbow injury and her title defense in singles ended with a first-round loss, only the third ever by the previous year’s champion in more than a half-century of the Open era.
