Polk-related bill passes House committee

A bill that would put a moratorium on closing Polk and White Haven state centers passed 15-9 this morning in the House Health Committee, a representative for state Rep. R. Lee James said.

The bill. introduced by state Rep. Gerald Mullery, of Luzerne County, seeks to halt the planned closure of the centers until care can be found for more than 13,000 people with intellectual disabilities who are on a waiting list.
