A preliminary hearing scheduled Wednesday for a Franklin man accused of breaking into an Oil City apartment and stealing $1,200 in cash and a cell phone has been continued.
The hearing for Eugene Sanders, 25, is now scheduled July 17.
Sanders is charged with felony counts of burglary-overnight accommodations/no person present, burglary-overnight accommodations/person present, criminal trespass-enter structure and criminal trespass-breaking into structure.
He also faces misdemeanor counts of defiant trespass and theft by unlawful taking of movable property.
A criminal complaint filed by Oil City police said that in the early evening hours of June 26, Sanders arrived at a residence on Spruce Street in Oil City with the intention of making contact with a woman who lives there.
The complaint said Sanders was met by the property owner who loaned Sanders his cell phone to make calls. Sanders left the property with the man's cell phone several hours later, the complaint said.
The property owner returned to the residence at 11:45 p.m. the same night, and while preparing himself for bed he heard a voice in the downstairs apartment that he recognized to be Sanders' voice, the complaint said.
The complaint said the property owner called the woman living in the apartment who told him that she was not in her apartment and had not given Sanders permission to be there.
The woman returned to the residence where she and the property owner confronted Sanders and a female companion who was with him, the complaint said.
Sanders and his companion appeared to have been using drugs in the apartment owner's bedroom where they left bloody paraphernalia, according to the complaint.
The woman and the property owner demanded Sanders and his companion leave the residence "to the point of near physical confrontation before they departed," the complaint said.
The property owner discovered later that more than $1,200 had been removed from an envelope that had been in the apartment owner's room after finding the empty envelope in the side yard, the complaint said.
Sanders is being lodged in the Venango County jail as he was unable to post bail.
