An Oil City woman was charged Friday for stealing a cellphone after an accidental selfie of the suspect appeared on the phone owner's online account.

A criminal complaint filed by Oil City police says Gayle M. O'Brien, 56, unintentionally took a picture of herself with the phone on May 12 as she was trying to unlock the phone.

The complaint said O'Brien took the phone May 11 during a gathering in which the phone owner was present.

On Sunday, the owner was reviewing her photos with a new phone and found O'Brien's picture, the complaint said.

Oil City police charged O'Brien with misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled July 3 in Venango County Central Court.
