SHARON - Holden Cook and Josh Nettles each finished in second place while three other Franklin wrestlers advanced to districts after placing in the top eight of their respective weight classes on Saturday in the Section 2-AA tournament held at Sharon High School.

Cook finished second at 182 pounds after getting pinned by Slippery Rock's Kaleb Kamerer in 5:22 in the finals. He opened the day with a fall over Bryce McCloskey of Reynolds in 4:39 in the semifinals.

Nettles also placed second at 285 after dropping a 5-3 decision to Derek Skeehan of Reynolds in the finals. He advanced to the title match with a 5-3 decision over Jordan Wilson of Sharon in the semis.

Trevor Hamilton (106) and Carson Wible (160) each finished in seventh place for the Knights while George Coon (138) was eighth as Franklin finished 11th in the team standings with 64 points. Hamilton pinned Justine Zuchowski of Slippery Rock in 4:25 in the seventh-place bout while Wible pinned Wyatt Guthrie of Commodore Perry in 2:38. Coon dropped an 8-6 decision to Seth Evans of Sharon.

A total of 19 area wrestlers advanced to the D-10 meet with Titusville's Jarrod Rodgers (145) and Parker Harvey (195) taking home individual titles. Seth Donovan (113) and Hunter Thompson (120) finished in second place for the Rockets while Zach Rodgera (106) was fourth, Sebastian Titus (182) was sixth and Kaleb Dunlap (285) was seventh. The Rockets placed fifth in the standings with 121 points.

Logan Breese (138) and Tyler Greer (160) each finished third to lead Grove City to a 12th-place finish with 60 points. Daiveon Say (152) followed in fourth place while Nate Henriquez (145) was fifth.

Ryan O'Polka led Lakeview with a fourth-place finish at 132 while Robert Reiser (113) was seventh and Wyatt Zebrovious (120) was eighth as the Sailors placed 15th with 24 points.

The District 10 Class 2A tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Sharon High School.

Cardinals place third

MEADVILLE - Led by second-place efforts from Jack Martinec and Shane Peterson, Cochranton finished third as a team in the Section 1-AA wrestling tournament at Meadville High School.

Martinec placed second at 106 pounds after getting pinned in 5:56 by Hunter Robison of General McLane in the finals. Peterson also fell in the finals at 120 after getting pinned by Alex Kightlinger of Saegertown in 4:19 as the Cardinals ended the tournament with 164 points.

Nine other Cochranton wrestlers advanced to districts after placing in the top eight of their respective weight classes. Justin Boozer (138) and Louden Gledhill (160) each finished third for the Cardinals while Willis Morrell (126) and Dalton Boozer (220) placed fourth, Stephen Martinec (113) and Kalob Brown (145) were fifth, Brendan Ace (132) was sixth, Stetson Boozer (152) was seventh and Brandon Richter (170) was eighth.

Maplewood advanced eight wrestlers to districts with J.D. McFadden (182) and Joey King (220) leading the way in second place. Jesse Parker (152) was third, Chevy Blake (195) was fourth, Tucker Urey (126) was sixth, Brad Roae (138) and Jesse McFadden (170) were seventh while Steven Heme (285) was eighth. The Tigers placed eighth in the team standings with 100 points.

The District 10 Class 2A tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Sharon High School.
