The Franklin and Oil City boys basketball teams will be among several area squads in action this weekend as the District 10 playoffs are set to get underway.
Coach Jason Fulmer's Knights (10-12) will open the postseason with a home game at 7 p.m. on Friday night against Iroquois (0-22) in the first round of the Class 3A bracket. Meanwhile, coach Bundy Fulmer's Oilers (11-9) will hit the road on Friday at George Junior Republic (4-16) for a 7 p.m. start in the first round of the Class 4A bracket.
If the Knights defeat the winless Braves, they would advance to play Mercyhurst Prep in the quarterfinals on Friday, Feb. 22, at a site and time to be announced. With a victory, the Oilers would face off against Titusville (16-4) for the third time this season on Thursday, Feb. 21, in the quarters at a site and time to be determined.
Grove City's boys team (14-8) will receive a bye in the first round of the Class 4A bracket and will square off with either Fort LeBoeuf or Warren in the quarters on Thursday, Feb. 21, at a site and time to be announced.
In the Class 2A boys bracket on Friday night, Lakeview (13-8) will host Saegertown and Maplewood will enteratin Reynolds, both 7 p.m. starts. Meanwhile, Region 3 champion Cochranton (18-4) gets a first-round bye before facing either Saegertown or Lakeview in the quarters on Friday, Feb. 22, at a site and time to be determined. Coach Phil Canfield's Cardinals are riding a 13-game winning streak.
On the girls side, Maplewood will travel to Commodore Perry on Friday night for a 7 p.m. start in a first-round matchup in the Class 2A bracket while Cochranton will get a bye before facing West Middlesex in the quarters on Saturday, Feb.23, at a site and time to be determined.
In the Class 3A bracket, Lakeview will receive a bye in the first round before squaring off with North East in the quarters on Saturday, Feb. 23, at a site and time to be announced.
Grove City will face General McLane in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A bracket on Saturday, Feb. 23, at a site and time to be determined.
