Mid-East girls roll; advance to title tilt

TITUSVILLE - Sam Bernoski, Paige Simmerman, Gabby Revel and Zoe Cresswell drove in two runs apiece Tuesday night as the Meadville/Mid-East 10U all-star girls softball team cruised to a 20-2 four-inning victory over Titusville/Tionesta in the loser's bracket final of the District 1 tournament.

For the second straight game, the Meadville/Mid-East stars coaxed 15 walked from the opposing team.

Bernoski led the hit parade with a double while Addy Kregel, Simmerman, Raegan Nuhfer and Revel added a single apiece.

Abigail Mawhinney pitched the first two innings and allowed one hit while striking out three. Kregel worked the final two innings, giving up a hit with four strikeouts. Neither pitcher issued a walk.

Meadville/Mid-East, which dropped its tournament opener to Cochranton in extra innings, will play at Cochranton again at 6 p.m. today in the championship finals. The "if-necessary" game will be played Friday.
