Oil City all-stars top KRE; advance to championship against Clarion


Hank Lockhart pounded a three-run homer, Elijah Brosius smacked three singles and Bryce Stewart pitched a complete game Monday night as the Oil City 12U Little League all-star baseball team held off Knox/Rimersburg/Emlenton, 11-7 to advance to the championship.

Oil City will play at 7:30 p.m. today at Clarion and needs to win to force the if-necessary game.

Oil City held a 4-3 lead until erupting for six runs in the top of the fifth inning against KRE. Gavin Stephens singled in a run before Lockhart unloaded his three-run blast.

KRE plated four runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within three runs at 10-7 before Oil City tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.

Brosius led Oil City's 12-hit attack with three singles while Lockhart doubled and homered. Dom Dawes also had a two-bagger while Stephens and Braylin Barber drilled two singles apiece. Chipping in with one single each were Brandon Murray and Stewart, who walked three and struck out four in the route-going performance.

Aiden Fox, Caden Burns and Sebastian Link smacked two singles apiece for KRE. Adding one single each were Owen Saylor, Brady Dunlap and Owen Bish.

Saturday's game

Clarion 9, Oil City 3

Clarion collected nine hits en route to a 9-3 win over Oil City in the winner's bracket final on Saturday at Oil City.

Jesse Siwiecki paced Clarion with two singles while Jimmy Kerr, Matt Alston and Wyatt Watterson chipped in with a double each. Adding singles were Aiden Weber, Aiden Coulston, Braylin Beckwith and Brady Pierce.

Oil City finished with seven hits with Casey Rybak leading the way with a single and double. Gavin Stephens and Hank Lockhart had two singles apiece and Dom Dawes added one single.

Clarion will host Oil City in today's championship finals at 7:30 p.m.


Mid-East 14, Lakeland 2

CONNEAUT LAKE - Abigail Mawhinney tossed a three-hitter and struck out 12 as the Meadville/Mid-East 10U girls softball all-star team rolled to a 14-2 victory over Lakeland in the loser's bracket semifinals.

Mawhinney allowed just one walk in her complete-game win in the circle and also swatted one of Mid-East's four singles.

Zoe Cresswell, Payton Phillips and Regan Nuhfer also had singles for Mid-East, which also took advantage of 15 walks from Lakeland pitchers.

Cresswell also picked up a pair of RBIs while Mawhinney and Phillips had one RBI apiece.

Mid-East will play at 6 p.m. today on the road against Titusville/Tionesta in the loser's bracket final.
