BUTLER — Matt Gregor buried six three-pointers to finish with 22 points as North Catholic pulled away in the third quarter to secure a 77-60 victory over Franklin in the Shootout at Butler High School.

Coach Jason Fulmer’s Knights, who dropped to 7-1 on the season, hung tough with the WPIAL Class 4A power for the first two quarters as they trailed 19-14 after one quarter and 31-28 at halftime. However, the Trojans’ depth proved to be too much on this night as they drained five of their 12 three-pointers in the third period to break away with a 30-12 surge on the scoreboard.

It’s been quite a ride this season for Franklin High School’s girls softball team. After rolling to 16 straight victories to begin the 2022 campaign, the Knights have gone just 3-3 over the past six, including a 5-3 loss in Monday’s District 10 Class 4A championship game to Villa Maria.
