ST. LOUIS - In the finest moment of his sparkling collegiate career, and one of the best in NCAA championship game history, Kentucky's Jack "Goose" Givens poured in 41 points to lead the Wildcats past Duke, 94-88, for the school's fifth national title.

Givens, the No. 2 all-time scorer in Kentucky history, put on a sparkling display of shooting in front of 18,721 fans at the Checkerdome. Givens made 18-of-27 shots from the floor and finished with a career-high 41 points, the third-highest total for an individual in the NCAA championship game, topped only by Bill Walton's 44 points in 1973 and Gail Goodrich's 42 in 1965, both for UCLA.
